Rundown: Snapchat Stories

Rundown: Snapchat Stories
Ali Rehwinkel

Move over SnapchatInstagram just popped in with a new Snapchat-like feature that lets users share all the highlights of their day in a slideshow scheme: a “story.” No more overanalyzing the perfect timing to post a photo, because at the end of the 24-hour day all the photos go away.

Diamond PR is here to show you how it works:

Once you’ve logged into your Instagram app, the most recent stories by the people you follow will be posted at the top of your feed. Click on one of the circles, and there you’ll find a 10-second video or picture. You can also visit a user’s profile to check out their story by simply tapping on their profile picture. Some users allow messaging to be sent through their direct message inbox. At the bottom left of the story, you’ll see a “send message” option. Once you’re viewing a story, you you can tap to go back and forward or swipe to jump to another person’s story.

How do I create a story?

First, make sure you have downloaded the upgrade. Once that is complete, tap the “+” sign in the left-hand corner of the screen, or swipe left to expose the camera. After you’ve opened the camera, you can take pictures or videos like you typically do on Instagram. Add your own flare by adding text, drawings or choose one of the filters offered. Much like Snapchat, you can see who’s seen each photo and video by swiping up on your personal story.

So how is it different than Snapchat? The Verge helped break it down for us.

• Instagram lets users rewind stories to watch what they may have skipped over
• Instagram does not show you who screenshots your story — be careful on what you post!
• Snapchat is still the only tool to have the Geofilters and facial-mapping
• Instagram has more marker colors to draw with
• Instagram lets you posts pieces of your story as an Instagram post
