Coffee Cravings

Coffee Cravings
Priscilla Ramos

Coffee is one of the first thoughts that comes to most people’s minds when they wake up in the morning. The craving for that extra jolt and the smell of a freshly brewed cup o’ joe is enough motivation to get out of bed and start the day. It wasn’t until I moved to Los Angeles last year that I really started to notice how ever-present coffee is in our daily life and how it has taken on a life of its own. I used to be your “average” coffee gal, running in and out of Starbucks like it was my job and buying every flavored CoffeeMate creamer I could get my hands on (still love me some sugar free vanilla!)- but I have since discovered the power of the niche coffee bar. These coffee shops are popping up left and right and are proving to be some of the best in the biz (in my humble opinion). I am not saying that the days of venti extra whip no foam non-fat 3 pumps of whatever are long gone but these small and mighty establishments seem to have a bigger following than the Kardashians.

For those who plan to travel to LA in the near or far future be sure to check out some of my favorites:

The Intellectual Drinker- Caffe Luxxe

Located on Montana Ave, the name says it all at this Santa Monica gem. Caffe Luxxe is like your calm cool and collected friend that you sometimes envy because they are just so cool, ya know? The quiet and charming spot is perfect for when you want a moment to catch up on some light reading over a steamy cappuccino. Take your drink outdoors and walk down the boutique-lined streets for some amazing shopping or great dog petting. My favorite part- they sell the most creative cards for any occasion.

The See and Be Seen- Alfred Coffee & Tea

Don’t let the long lines and multiple selfie takers fool you, this WeHo favorite is popular with good reason. Alfred Coffee may have amassed a “cult” following thanks to the many Instagrammers and celebs that stop by but once you get past the gaggle of guys and girls taking aerial shot of their coffee creations you’ll realize that they actually make an unbelievable iced coffee. If you’re having a “treat yo self” kind of day, order the $10 latte- trust me, its well worth it.

The Artistic Type- Tiago Coffee Bar + Kitchen

Located in the heart of Hollywood, and conveniently across the street from Diamond PR‘s LA office, this place holds a special place in my heart (and its not because we get a discount either). The moment you walk in, you are greeted by some of the most genuinely friendly staff and an array of eclectic characters who look like they are just waiting to be discovered by a movie producer. The ganache mocha is great when you want a sweet treat but the iced matcha latte with agave really takes the cake. Its so refreshing and pairs nicely with their chia seed pudding- I may have to order one after I finish this post….
