The Girlfriend’s Guide to “West Coast, Best Coast”

The Girlfriend’s Guide to “West Coast, Best Coast”
Aleja Sanchez

Long before my “Fast Times at DPR High”, where I’m amongst the top 3 interns in my class (there’s only 3 of us, lol), I took a planned, yet somewhat spontaneous trip to California for the birthday trip that almost wasn’t. Imagine planning your dream trip months in advance and then having your two best friends cancel on you the night before and the morning of your departure. #Nightmare

You may sit back from the edge of your seat though, because on February 17, 2016, we all finally made it out to Cali, where we’d depart on a 5-day multi-city adventure to see what all the “West Coast, Best Coast” hype was about. Spending two days in San Diego, two in Venice Beach, and one in Los Angeles, we quickly embraced the frugal lifestyle of traveling on a budget.

Seeing as how we were traveling in a diverse wolf pack (a musician, an athlete, and a gym rat), here’s a list of activities from our trip for every type of girlfriend, to ensure maximum fun! Hooray for travel trips!

For the Sporty Chick – Torrey Pines Hiking Trail

Stretching over 1500 acres of land, Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is one of the wildest stretches remaining in the Southern California Coast! Razor Point Trail was our trail of choice, running parallel to the Pacific Ocean shore offering scenic overlooks with unreal panoramic sights. But any trail will guarantee some breathtaking views.

For the Dog Lover – The Dog Park at Petco Park

If you’re a dog lover like myself, then this will be your favorite stop of the trip. Home to the San Diego Padres, Petco Park offers an on-leash area, where there’s a green and grassy space where our fuzzy friends can enjoy the company of other pups, or simply potty in peace.

For the Party Girl – OMNIA Nightclub – San Diego

If you’re the type of chick that likes to unwind in a more upscale, yet crazy fun setting, then OMNIA Nightclub is definitely for you. Having multiple venues in luxurious locations such as Las Vegas, Bali & Jakarta, Indonesia, OMNIA hosts huge name artists like Kaskade, Alesso, Calvin Harris, Afrojack, to name a few and is known for throwing the wildest parties.

For the Shop-a-holic – Fashion Valley

Sitting on 1.7 million square feet of space, Fashion Valley Mall is the largest outdoor mall in San Diego and one of the largest in California. Established as the fashion leader in the valley, FV houses 200+ fine stores and restaurants, making it a very popular retail and tourist destination, meeting every budget, style and taste.

For the Beach Bum – Venice Beach (My personal favorite)

If you enjoy spontaneous street shows, a melting pot of culture, and are a total beachcomber, Venice Beach is the place for you! From Muscle Beach to handball & paddle tennis courts, to the Skate Dancing plaza, numerous beach volley courts and bike trail, VB has a plethora of activities to offer, as if the beach wasn’t awesome enough.
