Pick your favorite early 2000s beach movie and I’ll tell you where to go!
Kari Van Treuren

A lot of big things happened in the early 2000s like old school social and music platforms (MySpace, AIM, LimeWire), questionable fashion trends (flare jeans, bedazzling, butterfly clips) and some strong power couples (Britney and JT, JaRule and Ashanti)… but one thing we can’t let go of are the movies, especially all of the classic (and cheesy) beach flicks.

While a lot of movies are filmed in your typical beach destinations like Hawaii, the Bahamas, and Miami (our home base 😏), the ambiances from certain movies can definitely be transferrable to places you may not have had on your radar. If you dig the salt and sand vibes in these movies, you may just be interested in these locales and resorts we work with at Diamond PR.

Blue Crush (2002)
Are you a wave chaser like the babes in Blue Crush? Think W Punta de Mita on Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit on the Pacific coast. This beautiful spot is a surfer’s dream, with some of the country’s best breaks and a vibrant, lively scene at the property and beyond. The resort even offers surfing classes for those of you that may not be on pro level yet. Upgrade from all you loved about the girls’ beach shack in the movie to a stylish, colorful room at W Punta de Mita filled with Mexican and surf-inspired decor.

Castaway (2000)
While you’ll feel anything but distraught and stranded in Eleuthera…similar to Tom Hanks, you might find that you have a beach all to yourself! A short golf cart ride away from the boutique French Leave Resort, the stunning, pink sand French Leave Beach is tucked away and secluded, and you’ll have your pick of beach seating. If you get hungry or thirsty, no need to look to the ocean or send smoke signals – one of French Leave Resort’s beach attendants has got you covered!

The Beach (2000)
Like Leo, do you crave adventure surrounded by scenes of aquamarine waters and mountainous terrain? Escape to the tropical St. Kitts Marriott Resort that has tons of (safe) places to explore with everything from zip lining the lush Kittitian rainforest to hiking Mount Liamuiga Volcano. While this island is no secret like Leo’s, you can discover your own slice of paradise here!

holiday-aruba

Holiday in the Sun (2001)
What are the 2000s without a little Mary Kate & Ashley? If you were a true fan like me, then you watched all 20+ of their movies and wanted to live out their stories. On their sunny holiday escape, it was all about experiencing everything the island had to offer by being out and about, and there’s no shortage of fun in the sun at Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino’s tropical playground. Great for a girls’ getaway no matter what age you may be, Aruba Marriott has two pools, a beautiful beach, live music, endless dining options, plus every water sport imaginable, shopping, and wildlife encounters with iguanas, ostriches, and donkeys nearby.

into-the-blue-bimini

Into the Blue (2005)
Are you in hot pursuit of an adventure into the deep blue sea like Jessica Alba and Paul Walker (RIP😔)? Grab your scuba and snorkel gear and dive into an exciting getaway at the chic Resorts World Bimini. Nearby, you can swim with sharks and explore the SS Sapona shipwreck, which has a different kind of treasure waiting for you than the one in the movie… vibrant fish and corals. While the gorgeous celeb stars, Jessica and Paul, may not be there, as Bimini is a hop, skip, and a jump away from Miami (and by that I mean 25-min seaplane ride), you just might run into some other beachseeker celebs on the island – you never know!
